Overview

The Director - Application Development will plan, organize, and execute the delivery of our business application systems, enabling the sound and secure growth of our fast-paced global business. You will prioritize customer satisfaction and business results while tracking key performance indicators and managing your department to financial targets. This position reports directly to the Director of Technology & Systems and will require frequent interaction with other senior leaders, including the company owner/CEO.


We are searching for an energetic self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to improvise and maneuver in rapidly changing landscape. You must enjoy and be skilled at team building and development, as well as relationship building and collaborating with executive leadership. Technical experience and passion for innovation are a must, but you will balance that with solid business-minded decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an application development and support team to deliver superior service and project deliverables.
  • Manage and report on department KPIs and other metrics.
  • Manage project and other work hours to ensure efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Set and communicate department and team goals that align with company goals.
  • Represent the company mission and core values in decision making.
  • Act as a role model for our values and culture and set an example for others to follow.
  • Maintain frequent, open, two-way communications with direct reports and staff.
  • Maintain frequent and transparent communication with other teams managers.
  • Analyze and evaluate existing processes, systems and staff.
  • Attract, retain, motivate, and lead a high-performing team.
  • Develop staff through coaching, training, and feedback.
  • Hold the team accountable for high quality service delivery to stakeholders.
  • Manage performance issues in a timely and constructive manner.
  • Consult with staff/leadership to identify and prioritize the needs of the organization.
  • Develop roadmaps for systems that support our global businesses into the future.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and controls to ensure secure and reliable operation.
  • Manage, maintain, and evolve our application systems to meet business demand.
  • Manage departmental expense budget and capital project spending plans.
  • Manage effective relationships and contracts with partners and vendors.
  • Oversee application security and protect the company from cyber threats.
  • Oversee technology projects in alignment with organization goals.
  • Oversee help desk activities and resolve escalated issues as necessary.
  • Oversee company wide system backup and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Anticipate future network needs, identify proactive solutions to satisfy needs.
  • Advise the leadership team of potential opportunities and threats.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years experience in IT software systems development and integration.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in IT leadership position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in CS, CIS, MIS or a related technology field required. MBA preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to exceed customer expectations.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of business-aligned IT strategy.
  • Experience building and integrating enterprise application systems.
  • Experience managing and integrating internal and external teams.
  • Ability to articulate the value of IT, influence thinking and foster collaboration.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute in a high-pressure environment.
  • Affinity for data-driven decision making.
  • Adaptable to changing business needs and climate.
  • Customer service attitude and a business-minded solutions approach.
  • Organized and experienced in project management.
  • Able and willing to work flexible hours driven by business demand.
